Challenge

The initial installation of a 106” by 68” elliptical tunnel showed active infiltration at the joints. The pipe was new so replacement was not considered. A trenchless remediation was preferred to avoid disrupting the road above.

Engineered Solution

HydraTite Internal Pipe Joint Seals were custom-manufactured to fit this tunnel to provide a trenchless solution for the compromised joints.

Scope

144 extra-wide and 10 double-wide seals were installed in this project. HydraTech sent a technician to train their crew on installation for the first seal. They applied what they learned on the second seal, and in roughly an hour, they had it locked in place. Each seal was air-tested and adjusted as needed. In just a few weeks, 154 joints were sealed in this elliptical tunnel.

Solution

HydraTite provided a lifetime of protection for this elliptical tunnel without requiring the pipe to be excavated. The installation was simple enough to learn and quick enough to make it the obvious choice for this rehabilitation project.
