A leak had formed in a 4-inch steel suction line located deep in the forward ballast tank aboard the tug Rhode Island. The carbon steel pipe leaked due to deterioration and a typical repair or replacement would be highly labor-intensive and time-consuming.

Scope

Marine HydraWrap® 4” Elbow Kit was purchased, the surface was prepared and Marine HydraWrap was applied according to directions.

Solution

The Shipyard General Manager utilized the Marine HydraWrap to eliminate leaks within the system. Marine HydraWrap, which is ABS Design Approved for shipboard piping repairs, was used to repair the system and keep the vessel in operation without the need to remove the existing pipe or perform hot work.
